Associate Pastor of Family Ministries

Detailed Position Description for prospects following God's call to serve:

Okatee Baptist Church is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team full-time as an Associate Pastor of Family Ministries. This position presents a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of families within our community under the direct supervision of the Lead pastor. The candidate must have a healthy relationship with Jesus Christ and have been baptized by immersion.

  • Hard worker - willing to do whatever it takes to help expand God's kingdom in the Lowcountry.

  • Approachable - Loving, caring. open and honest so that people are comfortable around you.

Responsibilities: Develop and provide leadership for a strategic, Christ centered Biblical plans for family ministry primarily serving children and youth.

  • Under the supervision of the lead pastor develop and implement a comprehensive family ministry program.

  • Provide pastoral care, counseling and support to families, individuals, and children within OBC. Oversee and coordinate family-oriented activities, events, and programs to foster spiritual growth and fellowship among families.

  • Ability to recruit, train, support, evaluate, and affirm others to teach students/families.

  • Present relevant, engaging and biblically based Christ centered content for children and youth.

  • Work with parents to provide resources and guidance to help them effectively disciple their children.

  • Foster an environment that embraces families of all backgrounds and stages of life.

  • Willing and able to submit to the spiritual authoritv of the Senior Pastor. Support and guard your oven family time.

Qualifications:

  • ​A bachelor's degree from a 4-year ministry college or university or equivalent experience is preferred. Demonstrated experience in local church leadership, preferably in a family focused role and affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

  • Passion for family discipleship and the ability to inspire and equip families to grow in their faith.

  • Calling - demonstrates a clear call to gospel ministry and demonstrates a calling to serve families.

  • Character - gives evidence of the character and conduct expected of a gospel minister, as explained in passages such as 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4.

  • Competence — demonstrates competence and willingness to learn in matters pertaining to pastoral ministry in general and in matters pertaining to this specific area of ministry as well.

  • Chemistry — gives evidence of the ability to work well with others and be part of our pastoral team. Possesses a sound, orthodox, holistic, and thoroughly biblical theology and can articulate that to others as well as possessing a healthy ecclesiology, which is grounded in the conviction that the church is the primary vehicle God has established to advance His gospel, accomplish His purposes, and glorify His Son, Jesus Christ.

  • Possesses a view of the individual ministries of the church (such as children and student ministry) that is connected to the overall life of the church and not isolated from the rest of the congregation.

  • Possesses a robust theology of conversion and can shepherd children, students, and parents through the process of dealing with conviction of sin, repentance, faith, and baptism.

  • Possesses a thorough understanding of the Baptist view of baptism and can clearly explain that to children, students, and parents.

  • Possesses and articulates a philosophy of family ministries that is rooted in the understanding that God created the home as the primary place for spiritual formation to happen and demonstrates the desire and ability to train parents and provide them with helpful resources for raising their children and students in a healthy fear and instruction of the Lord.

  • Demonstrates a genuine love for students and children, as well as the desire and ability to relate and interact well with them and their families, as well as all members of the congregation.

Although the role of the Associate Pastor of Family Ministries is to develop strategies and provide leadership for a Gospel ministry focusing primarily on children and youth, the role might include other ministry responsibilities. At Okatee Baptist Church we promote a 'whatever it takes' team approach to growing the Kingdom of God by helping people grow in Christ and reaching the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This means that we might have to serve in areas that don't explicitly exist in our position descriptions. Most importantly, we are looking for someone that loves people and has a passion to serve the Lord through the established processes of Okatee Baptist Church.
